Initially fascinated by photography, Yves Decadt later went on to adapt to the world of digital tools: the “mouse” became his paintbrush, the screen his “canvas”. His abstract works are inspired by subjects that he finds in the natural world and subsequently “deconstructs”.

Biography

Valérie Crausaz
Lives and works in Nîmes (in the department of Gard, France)

She was born in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1969.
Some years later, she emigrated to the Cevennes region in France and quite naturally enrolled at the Beaux-Arts de Nîmes school of art in 1986 before qualifying (DNSEP) in Montpellier in 1991.
In Nîmes, her love of painting was undoubtedly developed by meeting Vincent Bioulès, Alain Clément and Claude Viallat, amongst others.
During the time spent at the school of engraving, directed by François Dezeuze and Emilio Serrulla, she learned all of the different techniques of this discipline. Several years later, her taste for engraving resulted in the acquisition of a copper-plate press in order to allow her to develop her technique on a regular basis in her studio.Today she shares her time between her studio in Nîmes and teaching art in local schools and colleges.

Biography

Patrice Bertran was born in Paris in 1962. He began to paint when he was only eight years old.

At the age of 25 he discovered simultaneously yoga and Kandinsky’s work «Du Spirituel dans l’art et dans la peinture en particulier».  From that time onward meditation and pictorial evolution were one and the same for him. His paintings began winning prizes, one of them from the town of Istres (FRA), another being the Cannes Salon International prize. Patrice Bertran exhibits at the Lourmarin Art Gallery as well as in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Martigues, Marseille and Paris.

Approach

Patrice Bertran‘s paintings generate a contemplative state in the beholder and are a source of harmonious inspiration, in keeping with both traditional and modern trends. They express the inevitable advent of the era of globalization through a harmonious association of technical, scientific and industrial progress. This association is conveyed by the use of metal tonality, geometrical forms and special effects of multidimensional transparency – with reference to the String theory, a recent discovery in the field of astrophysics, and to a system of ethics intrinsic to an authentic, fully conscious and liberating spiritual awareness.

It is this very awareness – which transcends concepts and dogmas – to which Patrice Bertran makes reference in his paintings by reverting to the idea of “the gateless gate”.  This immaterial inner opening, symbolizes the transition from a utilitarian era, to an era which takes into account man’s spiritual aspects in the Bergsonian understanding of the term “hot religion” as opposed to “cold religion”, the latter being based on accepted dogma.

Biography

Yves Decadt – Introduction and BIO

Since I was a young boy, I have been fascinated by photography and intrigued by nature in all its forms and shapes.

Though I have always loved landscapes, I have developed a particular interest in more original perspectives on the natural world and on photography in general.  Consequently, my pictures tend to focus on patterns and colours, which, in themselves, become abstract entities.

Furthermore, since the advent of digital photography more than a decade ago, my skills in making digital creations have evolved significantly.

Over the past 10 years, I have been using modern digital technologies to create two “series” of works:  the first is called “The Silk Series”. It is somewhat more abstract; the second is “The Rune Series” which has a more surrealistic quality.

 1) The Silk Series

This Series is very intuitive and, in contrast to the Rune Series, is less based on conceptual thought. Its two essential components are:

A tribute to forms and shapes found in nature

Using modern digital “brushes” and “canvasses”, the Silk Series is made up of abstract representations based on patterns similar to those found in the natural world.  I am, for example, intrigued by the flamboyant colours of a bird’s feathers or a butterfly’s wings, by the waving patterns of a sea-anemone, by a tropical frog.

A tribute to light

Light is complex. White light is made up of an endless number of wavelengths, each with its own specific light colour. It is also made up of particles which carry an enormous amount of energy (which we of course do not feel when we are within its range). Consequently, in my more recent works, I use a very high granularity which reinforces the granularity and complexity of light. Due to this granularity, each piece in the Silk Series contains its own “deconstruction” – that is, its own analysis of the light of which is composed its holistic image.

2) The Rune Series

This Series is more of the order of “intellectual play”, my plan being to make a series of single pieces, each representing an individual letter of the old Northern European Rune Alphabet. The elements of this alphabet represent not only single letters, but also different layers of meaning, derived from various legends and myths. Needless to say, the Rune Alphabet is a deep source of inspiration!

Biographical note

Machine draughtsman during the week, artist at the weekend.

Photography led me to discover new ways of perceiving landscapes. My creative penchant and tastes have encouraged me to use this heightened perception to explore new horizons and challenges. As a result, scenes in the natural world have become the target of my camera’s viewfinder; gradually those scenes have become the settings rather than the subjects of my works.

My out-of-door creations aim to create contrasts between a subject and a site while highlighting the value of that site.  Though the materials used are products of the earth a sense of other worldliness prevails.

During the week, as an “adult”, I draw straight lines between the walls of a workshop. At the weekend, as a “child”, I express myself through curved lines in the free open space of the natural world. This balance is essential for me.

Biography

Guy Bucchi was born in southern France.

Since childhood, he has been fascinated by the work of skilled artisans – harness and saddle makers, blacksmiths, mattress makers, artistic and ornamental ironworkers – in Entraigues the village where he grew up.

Following his vocational training as a sheet metal and boilermaker, Guy honed his practical design skills and familiarization with metal while exercising his trade in France. However, he quickly came to the realization that factory work could never bring him the professional gratification he was seeking. So, he decided to change the course of his professional life by gaining qualifications as a psychiatric nurse.

Followed a long period during which Guy spent all of his leisure time in a scrap metal dealer’s yard, a rich source of objects and tools, where he began a collection of diverse, eclectic useable bits and pieces of metal. A recycling center served him well in collecting an assortment of “treasures” which would serve to launch his artistic activities.

During a four year residence in Australia (1987-1991) he discovered his passion for the world of art and creativity. He subsequently retired from psychiatric nursing and began dedicating himself fulltime to his creative activities, mainly to the design and creation of contemporary style furniture.

The basic material used for his works is iron enhanced by contrasting materials such as various kinds of wood, leather, copper and rope.  His primary works are unique and limited-series chairs, but he also makes tables, floor- and table-model candleholders and coat stands.

For Guy, «Art is a quest, a test of our overall potential, an ongoing personal search for new means of expression and synthesis – all of which demands an intense process of seeking for the best possible outlet for our individual sensitivity.” However, he adds, “… let’s forget about words for the moment and let our creations speak for themselves.”

Guy Bucchi has been living in New Zealand with his wife Linda since 2001. The Bucchis divide their time between their New World country – where Linda runs the Petite Provence B&B situated in a lush green field overlooking the Pacific Ocean – and France, Guy’s home country with its millennia of history where they spend several months each year in the old family home in a village near Avignon.

Hervé Perdriel

ARTISTIC PHOTOGRAPHER

Hervé Perdriel was born in Paris (France), in 1972. His professional experience there in image and illustration banks gave him an eye well advised in understanding the effects induced by images.

In 2002, he travelled to Bulgaria to do photographic reporting and studio photography for an illustration agency. On his return to Paris in 2004, inspired by the city’s architecture, he began making numeric photographic collages. At this time he first began working on the «Paris» series which illustrates the weird reality in the multiplicity of the city’s emblematic places. Since then, the principles of multiplicity and seriality have emerged at the heart of his work and research.

Even if the city remains an important source of inspiration for him, Hervé Perdriel today goes beyond mere visual effects to breathe meaning, depth, intimacy into his images. This is well illustrated by one of his most recent series “Pieces of Identity”, the collected images which describe a person, an existence through   memories and sensations…

Hervé Perdriel lives and works in Paris. Since 2006, his work has been regularly shown in solo or collective exhibitions.

Biography

Giovanna Battaino

Giovanna Battaino was born in the French town of Blois, on the banks of the River Loire between Tours and Orléans. On completing her studies at the Dessaigne Lycée in 1980, she spent a year travelling in the USA, Mexico and Guatemala.  Struck by the beauty and purity of the Mayan and Aztec sculptures which she discovered in these countries, she decided to dedicate herself to the stone arts.

In 1985, inspired by an exhibition of African masks in Europe, Giovanna journeyed to Africa (Lomé, Togo), where she worked together with a fellow sculptor to set up a monumental white marble sculpture.

On her return to Europe, she settled in Tuscany (Italy) where she acquired the techniques essential to the art of sculpture and launched into sculpting marble using both direct-cut and modeling techniques.

Battaino’s works demonstrate a power and a virtuosity of an uncommonly communicative nature:

«Timelessnes and purity, no more than slightly disturbed by movement,are the qualities that first strike the viewer on discovering Giovanna Battaino’s sculptural works. One’s thoughts are inevitably drawn to their similarities with the works of her illustrious predecessors such as Brancusi and Zadkine who dared dust off and refresh the art of sculpture, retaining only its essentials – lines and volumes – rendering it quasi abstract. As did these prestigious artists of the past, Giovanna Battaino does away with details, refining her sculptures to a maximum, while making the marble she so loves vibrate and sing.”
