Biography
Simone Monney was born in Zurich, Switzerland.
After spending her childhood in Bern, the attractions of life on the shores of the Lake of Geneva inspired her to relocate to the French-speaking part of the country. Her curiosity and creativity flourished in the “creative marketing studio” of an international fragrance producer in Geneva. There, for 15 years, she specialized in graphic design and the exploration of new market trends. Next to her job, she found serenity in painting. Her early works reflect this quest for calm in marine landscapes – oil paintings on canvas.
More
In 2001, she organized her first exhibition, which proved very successful. After her second exhibition in 2004, she finally had the courage to devote herself to painting full time.
Very quickly, music asserted itself as a major source of inspiration, generating a sense of elation, from pianissimo to forte, as if impelled by a conductor’s baton. Next, her urge to express new emotions found in India ink a choice medium where the clear-cut meets the vague and softness encounters roughness. Mixing and blending techniques and the use of metallic color pigments bring light into play, giving rise to moods corresponding to each kind of ambient lighting.
For Simone, art is much like a voyage into herself. Sensitiveness and spirituality encounter fervor and enthusiasm, mirroring the multitude of her inspirations. A keen observer with a strong sense of aesthetics, she assembles arrays of harmonious colors with new, innovative perspectives. Her innate curiosity leads her ceaselessly to explore new horizons and new innovative techniques like the latest creations on Plexiglas. This series is called “translucidité”.
“Translucidité” emphasises mixed-media compositions where painting mirrors photography, featuring both sides of an acrylic plate the better to explore the pictorial realm.
Combining techniques leads to original visual discoveries. Acrylic-diluted pigments contrast and blend with photographic prints. The eyes follow this or that movement, chancing upon bursts of color, sparkling and caroming off a stroke of light before fading haphazardly into transparency.
